Drywall Installation Services

What is Drywall?
Drywall is a panel or a board made from calcium sulfate dehydrate and this is why it is sometimes referred to as gypsum board. Drywall is created mostly for use in the construction industry and can create ceilings and wall partitions.

The good thing about drywall is that it is simple to maintain, repair, and install. There are two ways in which these boards can be made. The first is through mining gypsum, a natural, nontoxic mineral found in more than 85 countries worldwide. The second method is by creating synthetic gypsum using flue-gas.

5 BENEFITS OF DRYWALL INSTALLATION
Affordable
Did you know it is more affordable to have gypsum panels installed than plaster? It is also cheaper than using plywood for construction projects.
Has Insulating Properties
There are not many building materials out there that are both affordable and have insulation properties. Gypsum boards reduce the amount of heat lost, and this reduces the overall heating costs.

TYPES OF DRYWALL TO CONSIDER FOR YOUR HOME

The key to choosing sheetrock lies in its utility and functionality. For example, if you have a mold problem, you do not require fire-resistant panels but a mold-resistant panel. So how many gypsum boards are there, and what are their uses?
White Boards
Whiteboards are among the most economical boards in the market. They have a thickness of  3/8 to 1 inch. Whiteboard panels are placed between two paper sheets; one side is brown and the front side grey. A regular board can be used throughout the house and has a size of 4 by 8 foot.
Green Boards
Green boards are suitable for use where you want to protect your home from mold infestation. It is moisture-resistant and is ideal for use in the bathroom, attic, and basement. To make the green board more mold resistant, we advise that drywall mud be used during the installation phase. Green boards are more expensive than whiteboards and can cost 20% more.

Blue Board Drywall
Blue board panels are also known as plaster baseboards. They are sometimes known as mold resistant boards and are suitable for veneer plastering and boasts of having unique absorption characteristics. If you plan to install a blue board, we recommend it is installed in moisture-prone areas.
Purple Boards
Purple sheetrock boards have several advantages that make them the right choice for high traffic areas, such as their dent and scratch-resistant properties. Other benefits are that it is mold, moisture, and mildew resistant. Purple boards are easy to install and repair, and the good thing about them is that they can be installed both in the ceiling and on the walls.
Type X Boards
If you are looking for fire-resistant drywall, then consider type x panels. They are made of several thick layers making it hard to cut when compared to regular boards. The layers are made of non-combustible fibers and have a thickness of 5/8- 1 inch.
For a board to have a type X designation, it should have a fire rating of at least 1 hour.
Soundproof Drywall
This type of board is made from a mix of polymers, wood fibers, and gypsum. The panels are laminated to increase the sound transmission class. This type of panel is denser than whiteboards, making it harder for sound to pass through, making it soundproof.
This kind of board is suitable for use to reduce the amount of sound entering your building.
Type C Panels
Type C panels have the same thickness as type x panels. The main difference between the two is that C panels use more fibers than X panels. Also, C panels have anti-shrinkage properties, which makes it better than X panels.
Cement Boards
Cement boards are suitable for use in water prone areas such as the bathroom. It is mold resistant, and it is preferred as a base for tile installation.

DRYWALL INSTALLATION COSTS

Gypsum board installation is generally priced per square foot. However, some contractors might quote on a per room basis. In some cases, others might decide to price their services on an hourly basis, which is ok for small projects. However, if it is a huge installation project, then the most economical option would be a square foot evaluation. The cost of sheetrock installation will depend on several factors. These are:
The Level of Finishing Done
Drywall finishing is based on six levels of finishing based on a rating system. The basic finishing level can be described as 0, while the best finishing level in the market is 5. The higher the finishing required, the more the installation cost.
Type of Texture Used
There are two types of textures; hand-applied texture and spray applied texture. Some textures will depend on tools and skilled labor to use. This, therefore, increases the finishing cost.
Type of Projects
New residential drywall jobs are cheaper when compared to renovation projects. This is because renovation projects will require lots of demo and prep work.
Gypsum Board Installation cost
  • Standard boards: $10 -25 per sheet
  • Mold resistant Panels: $12-$30 per sheet
  • Soundproof drywall: $50 -$55 per sheet
  • Fire-resistant: $13 per sheet
When broken down per square foot, expect the labor cost to be around $1- $4.
